'Twilight' Star Dakota Fanning Deemed Too Sexy for the UK

Here's a quick tip: if you're going to make a provocative perfume ad using a 17-year-old model, don't go with Dakota Fanning.

Designer Marc Jacobs has stirred up some controversy in the UK over a recent ad for his fragrance "Oh, Lola!" featuring Fanning as the model. In the ad, the young actress is reclined on the floor, modestly dressed but holding the bottle of perfume in a... strategic location.

That was enough for the Advertising Standards Authority to ban the ad in the UK.

"We considered that the length of her dress, her leg and the position of the perfume bottle drew attention to her sexuality,” noted the ASA. “Because of that, along with her appearance, we considered the ad could be seen to sexualise a child. We therefore concluded that the ad was irresponsible and was like to cause serious offence."

You have to wonder how much of this is a result of it being Fanning in the ad, as opposed to any other 17-year-old model. After all, Fanning has been a star from a young age and we've watched her grow up, so some might still see her as younger than she is. Others may just recognize her as Jane from the "Twilight" saga, and not see a problem with the ad.

There are two versions of the ad, the other with Fanning lying down and holding the bottle near her face. The ASA has not expressed any concern over that second version.

Check out the two ads below. What do you think? Is the ASA overreacting, or is this ad inappropriate for someone Fanning's age to model for?
